(Melbourne) On 20 September 2026, the Australian Jiangmen General Commercial Association held its 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at a community centre in Melbourne’s south-east. Junxi Su, Chair of Chinese Family Support Network Victoria, and members of the centre’s committee attended as invited guests, joining more than 200 fellow community members, representatives of the Chinese diaspora and other guests to celebrate the festival. In a congratulatory address, Junxi Su expressed the centre’s willingness to take an active part in Chinese community organisations’ activities, strengthen friendly exchanges, encourage cooperation and work together to serve the community.

The centre thanks the Australian Jiangmen General Commercial Association for its warm invitation and extends its appreciation to the association’s team, members and supporters for their efforts in preparing the celebration. The gathering provided an opportunity for the centre to strengthen its ties with Chinese community organisations and build mutual understanding, while allowing participants to experience the warmth and cohesion of the community through festive exchanges.

The celebration opened with dragon and lion dance performances, followed by martial arts, dance and singing performances, interspersed with interactive games, karaoke and lucky draws. The varied programme brought festive enjoyment to participants of different ages and demonstrated the Chinese community’s vitality in preserving its culture and maintaining ties with its hometown.

Community connections

In an address, Liang Zhijun (梁志军), President of the Australian Jiangmen General Commercial Association and a member of the centre’s committee, reflected on the association’s work in preserving cultural heritage, contributing to community initiatives and promoting exchanges between Australia and China, and thanked members and sponsors for their support. Cui Zhuoming (崔卓明), the association’s Permanent Honorary President and Founding President, who is also a member of the centre’s Board, outlined the association’s foundations in talent, the arts, community service and social support, and expressed a wish to continue drawing on its strengths to serve the community. These two longstanding contributors to community work also provided a link for exchanges between the centre and the association.

Junxi Su said the centre looked forward to maintaining dialogue with the Australian Jiangmen General Commercial Association and other Chinese community organisations, strengthening connections through participation in community activities and exploring opportunities for cooperation towards the shared goal of serving the Chinese community. For the centre, becoming part of the community and learning about the work and experience of different organisations are also important steps towards responding more effectively to the needs of Chinese families.

The Mid-Autumn celebration was both a gathering to share a traditional festival and an opportunity for the centre to strengthen friendships between community organisations and broaden its community connections. Looking ahead, Chinese Family Support Network Victoria will continue to focus on the practical needs of Chinese families, actively participate in community activities and foster friendly exchanges. Through its work in community education, family support and connections to resources, the centre will work with people and organisations across the community to build a more caring Chinese community where people support one another.
